Technician I – Technical Operations

This role is for a Technician I in Technical Operations at the Safety Assessment site in Ashland, OH. The position involves an initial 5-9 week training period on 1st shift (Tuesday-Friday, 6 AM-4:30 PM), after which the technician will transition to weekend shifts (Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday, 6 AM-6:30 PM). The Technician I will be trained in fundamental skills, procedures, and teamwork, learning to support studies through animal handling, husbandry, observations, basic physiological indices, and data collection. While some basic tasks may be performed independently, ongoing supervision is provided to develop proficiency.

Key responsibilities include ensuring humane care and welfare for animals through positive interactions, training in essential on-boarding skills such as animal handling, husbandry, observation, basic physiological assessments, and data collection as per area-specific training plans and business needs. The technician will collect, document, review, and verify data, ensure high study quality, adhere to all PPE, safety, cleaning, and cross-contamination protocols, maintain communication with colleagues, support team members, and follow directions from leadership. They will also use and maintain instrumentation according to SOPs and perform tasks as per SOP, BOP, and/or protocols, along with other assigned duties.

Candidat idéal

Candidates preferably have a high school diploma or GED; an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. No prior experience is required. Certifications are not specified. Essential qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, computer skills (including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn validated systems), and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and using protective equipment. The role requires adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules to ensure study integrity and regulatory compliance.
