This role is a key leadership position within the RBC Insurance CFO team, acting as a strategic business partner and advisor across financial accounting, performance management, planning, and forecasting. The director will be primarily responsible for the strategic direction and execution of large-scale finance and actuarial transformation initiatives, including automation efforts for major accounting standards. It requires high-level collaboration with senior business partners, including IT and Actuarial leadership, to identify significant financial optimization opportunities.
Direct the strategy, planning and execution of large-scale initiatives across Finance, Actuarial, IT, and external vendors.,Identify and proactively mitigate high-impact risks to ensure the realization of critical project timelines and business objectives.,Serve as the primary technical authority leading the enhancement of detailed requirements that underpin key financial metrics, critical accounting policies (IFRS 17), external reporting, calculation rules, and regulatory disclosures.,Provide direction for the development of end-to-end integration requirements across General Ledger (GL), subledgers, CSM calculators and reporting tools.,Drive collaborative efforts across Finance, Actuarial, and IT Functions to identify and capitalize on major financial optimization opportunities.
7-10+ years of progressive experience in insurance finance transformation, holding senior accounting or actuarial roles with deep, hands-on knowledge of life insurance products and complex investment portfolios.,Expert-level knowledge of IFRS standards and proven experience defining, developing, and implementing major accounting frameworks (e.g., IFRS 17, IFRS 9, etc.) and/or leading the implementation of downstream reporting requirements.,Superior strategic project and program management skills with extensive experience leading large-scale, enterprise-wide initiatives.,Exceptional cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and present highly complex technical topics to finance and IT leaders.,A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, etc.) or actuarial designation (FSA, FCIA, etc.), or completion of a Master's or PhD in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Finance.,Nice to have: Practical experience with GL/subledger architectures, actuarial valuation platforms, policy administration systems, and sophisticated finance data warehouses.,Nice to have: Familiarity with enterprise-level Accounting Hubs, modern Business Intelligence (BI)/reporting tools, and public cloud platforms.,Nice to have: Senior financial data architecture experience in developing canonical models, data lineage governance, ETL/ELT design strategies, and automated reconciliation frameworks.
