Veterinary Technician II

Description

This role involves maintaining and monitoring the health and physical environment of Charles River or external customer animals. The Veterinary Technician II will also assist veterinary staff in documenting and triaging laboratory animal health cases, and may perform technical in-life procedures, requiring technical expertise and adherence to complex instructions.

What We're Looking For

Assist veterinary staff in documentation and triage of animal health cases.,Conduct regular clinical rounds, routine health monitoring, and examinations.,Investigate reports of animal health issues and conditions impacting well-being.,Recommend, administer, and record routine animal treatments.,Generate summary reports as needed.,Perform and document appropriate clinical observations.,Ensure corrective actions for health or welfare issues are developed and implemented.,Notify veterinary staff, study directors, and other personnel of abnormal findings.,Perform routine veterinary technical and husbandry skills including administering therapeutic measures (IV, IM, SQ, topical, oral), bandage/wrapping, nail/hoof/teeth clipping/trimming, venipuncture, vaginal swabs, and proficient animal restraint.,Monitor critical care animals (e.g., place IVs, monitor fluids).,Perform animal follow-up observations and monitor animal health visually and by detailed schedules.,Generate, track, and schedule animal treatment records and follow-ups.,Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with study and regulatory requirements.,Assist in maintaining accurate record-keeping procedures for the veterinary department.,Maintain and follow complex procedures for animal health and treatment.,Provide input into the creation/revision of SOPs and assist in implementation and training.,Assist in providing leadership, animal health training, and guidance to less experienced technical staff.,Assist in inventory and stocking of vet rooms (drugs and supplies).,Assist in organizing and maintaining vet exam rooms.,May be responsible for tissue sampling, routine animal manipulations, and administration of fluids or other treatments.,May perform routine technical and husbandry functions (general housekeeping) and adhere to safety procedures.,Assist in surgery and peri-surgery care, including providing and monitoring anesthesia, preparing surgical packs, and administering supportive therapy.,Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

Education: Graduate of a collegiate veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Training Activities or equivalent program.,Experience: 1-2 years related experience working with animals in a pre-clinical laboratory or clinical setting; experience working in a CRO with multi-species preferred.,Certification/Licensure: LVT license or CVT/RVT certification preferred. AALAS certification preferred.,Other: Demonstrate understanding of Standard Operating Procedures.,Excellent organizational, time management and recordkeeping skills.,Basic word processing skills required.,Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.,Must be proficient in routine veterinary technical and husbandry techniques.

Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent)
