This role involves training to become proficient in technical operations at Charles River Laboratories' Safety Assessment site in Ashland, OH. The technician will learn essential skills such as animal handling, husbandry, observations, and data collection, while working under supervision and within a team environment to ensure animal welfare and study quality.
Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals through gentle, positive human-animal interactions.
Train in on-boarding skills including animal handling, husbandry, observations, basic physiological indices, and data collection/recording.
Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms or in electronic data capture systems.
Ensure high levels of study quality to meet study goals.
Follow all PPE, safety, cleaning, and cross-contamination elimination practices.
Maintain appropriate communication with other personnel.
Support teammates, technicians, and members of other departments.
Follow direction from team leaders, trainers, research associates, and supervisors.
Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment according to SOPs.
Perform all tasks per SOP, BOP, and/or protocols.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred.
No previous experience required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
No specific certification/licensure required.
Ability to ensure a safe working environment by observing safety procedures and proper use of protective equipment.
Ability to ensure study integrity and meet regulatory requirements (GLP, SOP, BOP, IACUC).
High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred
Training 5-9 weeks 1ST SHIFT (TUES-FRI 6AM-4:30PM), then weekend shift hours (6AM-6:30PM) Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday.
Ability to work extended hours (evenings, weekends, extended shifts, extra shifts, sometimes on short notice). Ability to work under specific time constraints. Must be authorized to work in the United States without a sponsorship visa. Must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds. Requires working in a research environment with sharp objects, mechanical parts, chemicals, biological hazards, fumes, airborne particles, and varying noise levels. Regularly works with live animals with risk of exposure to allergens, zoonotic disease, and biohazards.
