Vention is seeking a pragmatic and action-oriented Global Leader in Customs Compliance. This role involves driving tariff classification, origin strategy, and regulatory governance for global import and export operations, with a strong focus on supporting exports to the United States. Key responsibilities include managing HS classification, ensuring compliance with USMCA and other free trade agreements, mitigating customs risks, and performing direct analyses for origin, tariff changes, and classification decisions for both standard and custom-engineered products.
Lead global HS code strategy, with a strong emphasis on HTSUS and US compliance.,Determine and maintain classifications for assemblies, kits, and engineered equipment.,Mentor supplier HS codes and maintain rigorous classification documentation.,Collaborate with engineering to evaluate functionality, tariff changes, and substantial transformation.,Lead origin determination according to USMCA and other trade agreements.,Review Bills of Materials (BOM) to assess tariff change, regional value content, and transformation rules.,Issue origin certifications and manage supplier origin declarations.,Act as the primary technical contact for customs brokers, customs authorities, and external legal advisors.,Lead requests for binding rulings, post-clearance corrections, duty recovery initiatives, and post-entry claims.,Resolve entry discrepancies and maintain defensible classification and origin positions.,Integrate customs compliance into the sales process and internal systems (ERP/MRP).,Implement scalable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and integrated governance within engineering and supply chain workflows.,Maintain audit-ready documentation compliant with CBP due diligence standards.,Provide training and directly execute complex classification and origin analyses.
University degree in administration, international business, engineering, law, or a related field.,Formal training or certification in customs/trade compliance.,5 to 10+ years of experience in international trade compliance, ideally with a customs broker, consulting firm, or similar environment.,Strong expertise in HTSUS, USMCA, tariff changes, and substantial transformation.,Experience in analyzing complex Bills of Materials (BOM) and cross-functional collaboration with engineering teams.,Structured approach, attention to detail, and strong execution orientation.
