The Skilled PLC Technician at Saputo Inc. is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, inspection, modification, and repair of all automation equipment, components, and control systems. This includes working with electronics, robotics, fiber optic sensors, and pneumatic-hydraulic controls. The role involves troubleshooting malfunctions, diagnosing root causes, performing system updates, debugging PLC and HMI software, and coordinating with engineers and external sources for repairs. The technician also provides guidance and training to production and maintenance teams, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and company values.
Install, test, maintain, inspect, modify, and repair all automation equipment, components, and controls systems.,Abide by all regulations required by NEC, NFPA 70 E, and State requirements.,Coordinate with contractors and vendors for plant operations and new project support.,Perform instrument control programming and configuration (pressure/temperature transmitters, RTD's, PLC, HMI's and other controls logic devices).,Troubleshoot and diagnose electronic or mechanical malfunctions, identifying root cause and corrective actions.,Communicate directly with equipment suppliers, contractors, and vendors.,Resolve and repair all system faults and anomalies, including changes, adjustments, and modifications to control code and standard operating parameters.,Complete system updates and debug PLC, HMI, and other controls logic software.,Make recommendations for product software and hardware selection and upgrades.,Use computers, precision measuring instruments, hand/power tools, and electrical repair/modification tools.,Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance and testing on equipment.,Perform a large variety of tests on all electrical and electronic systems.,Dismantle, clean, repair, and test electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.,Coordinate with engineers and external sources for timely repairs or replacement of parts.,Maintain preventative maintenance logs and accurate records of all testing and repairs.,Coordinate with team members for on-site installation of automation equipment.,Exercise independent discretion, examine layout, and anticipate difficulties.,Recommend and implement improvements based on technical expertise.,Provide guidance and maintenance training to production supervisors, manufacturing engineers, and maintenance mechanics.,Follow and promote all health and safety rules, regulations, and practices.,Lock out equipment for proper and safe handling and servicing.,Troubleshoot problems with plant instrumentation and automation equipment (valves, pressure, temperature, level, flow, conductivity, speed, force instruments; motor controls; PLC's, HMI's, etc.).,Calibrate plant instruments (valves; pressure, temperature, level, flow, pH, conductivity, weight, force and speed instruments).,Work together with co-workers and other department personnel.,Adhere to the Saputo code of ethics and actively apply the Saputo values.,Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED.,AS degree in industrial controls technologies or related field OR 3-5 years' experience in instrumentation/automation field (or a combination of education and experience).,PLC, HMI or DCS certifications is preferred.,Calibration experience is a plus.,H.A.R.T. communication experience is a plus.,CMMS Software experience is preferred.,Advanced level understanding of automated control systems and integration, electronics, robotics, fiber optic sensors, pneumatic-hydraulic controls, HMI touch panels, and PLC programming.,Ability to work a flexible schedule.
