Epic Games is seeking an experienced Senior Technical UI Designer to work on Rocket League. This role involves implementing UI systems design in Unreal Engine, building rapid prototypes, layouts, visual scripting, and improving workflows. The designer will collaborate with UX Designers, UI Artists, and UI Programmers to deliver features to users globally. The ideal candidate should have expertise in game math, game systems, and basic programming principles.
Work on UI Systems Design, breaking down features/wireframes into necessary widgets, materials, and input navigation.
Increase UI performance by ensuring best practices and ensuring assets/UI are within memory and CPU constraints.
Learn to profile performance and the costs of UMG/Slate/C++/and texture memory.
Implement blueprint logic for presentation behavior and assist UI Artists.
Consult with UI Programmers on blueprint vs. native code logic.
Debug blueprints/UMG issues using various tools and techniques.
Assist UX, UI Art, and UI Programming in organization, documentation, and workflow improvements.
Experience in building UI and experiences in game engines and across multiple platforms (mobile, web, PC, consoles) or transferable experience.
Experience shipping updates and new features to a user base regularly or transferable experience.
Professional experience using Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator a plus).
Engine experience (Custom engine, Unity, Unreal Engine, Lumberyard, Snowdrop, etc.) and understanding of game industry 3D-package experience (3D Studio, Maya, etc.).
An eye for pixel-perfect UI and ability to identify potential issues with mockups.
UI work on 2+ AAA game titles.
C++ and scripting experience.
Experience with building materials/shaders in Unreal or equivalent.
Expertise in basic algebra and geometry math ('Game math').
Knowledge of game systems.
Basic programming principles.
Experience in building UI across multiple platforms.
Experience shipping updates and new features.
Professional experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
Experience with game engines (Unreal Engine preferred).
Understanding of 3D-package software (3D Studio, Maya).
