Epic Games is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Technical UI Designer to work on Rocket League. This collaborative role involves implementing UI system designs within Unreal Engine, creating rapid prototypes, layouts, visual scripts, and enhancing workflows. The designer will work closely with UX Designers, UI Artists, and UI Programmers to deliver features to a global user base. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in basic algebra, geometry ('Game Math'), game systems, and fundamental programming principles.
Work on UI system design, detailing functionalities and wireframes into necessary widgets, materials, and input navigation.
Improve UI performance by ensuring best practices are followed by colleagues.
Verify that assets and UI adhere to memory and CPU constraints.
Learn to analyze the performance and costs of UMG/Slate/C++ and texture memory.
Implement Blueprint logic when presentation logic is required.
Assist UI artists as needed to implement special presentation behaviors.
Consult UI programmers on which logic should reside in Blueprint versus native code.
Quickly debug Blueprint/UMG issues using various tools and techniques.
Find ways to assist UX, UI art, and UI programming in organizing, documenting, and building workflow improvements.
Experience building user interfaces and experiences in game engines across multiple platforms (mobile, web, PC, consoles), or similar transferable experience.
Experience launching updates and new features to a user base regularly, or similar transferable experience.
Professional experience using Adobe Suite (especially Photoshop and Illustrator as a differentiator).
Experience with game engines (custom engine, Unity, Unreal Engine, Lumberyard, Snowdrop, etc.).
Understanding of the games industry's 3D-package experience (3D Studio, Maya, etc.).
Good perception of UI pixel perfection, translating and identifying potential issues with mockups while helping to observe designs in-engine.
Logical thinker capable of problem-solving, with great attention to detail and excellent writing and communication skills.
Ability to 'translate' communication between departments (e.g., discuss programming needs with UI Art, summarize technical problems).
Empathy for non-technical team members and ability to empower others on the team.
Experience working with UI on 2 or more AAA titles.
Experience with C++, scripting, materials/shaders in Unreal or equivalent.
