Epic Games is seeking a Senior Technical Designer in Animation to work on various animation systems, focusing on designing and creating gameplay animation systems for high-quality character motion. This role involves acting as a primary contact for animation implementation issues and technical challenges, collaborating with Animation, Design, and Programming teams to ensure a smooth and efficient animation pipeline, identifying and solving potential issues, and facilitating communication between animation and other departments.
Create animation behavior tools, techniques, and philosophies for complex movement systems.
Design and implement animation state machines, behaviors, and runtime solutions.
Collaborate with Animation, Design, and Programming departments to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve in-game animation implementation and technical issues.
Work closely with animation leadership to maintain animation style and quality.
Identify opportunities to improve the animation pipeline/workflow, provide solutions for technical animation problems, and offer training and documentation to the animation team.
Strong animation sense with a clear understanding of realistic and stylized character motion and modern achievement methods.
Expertise in animation pipelines, including source content creation tools like Maya, MotionBuilder, and Unreal Engine (Control Rig toolset).
Exceptional problem-solving ability with strong written communication and teamwork skills.
Familiarity with gameplay animation tools and concepts (e.g., blend trees, state machines); experience with Unreal Engine Animation Blueprints is a plus.
Experience with AAA game development, preferably on a large team using an established game engine (internal or commercial); Unreal Engine experience is a plus.
Self-motivation, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently.
Coding knowledge or experience with C++ is not required.
