Description

The Senior Counsel, Privacy at CIBC is responsible for providing legal advice on privacy matters across the enterprise, including those related to new technologies, business initiatives, and privacy concerns. The role involves mitigating potential privacy legal risks and proactively working with employees at all levels. It also includes strategic analysis of Canadian privacy legislation and case law, and collaboration with internal functional groups and external legal counsel.

What We're Looking For

Provide proactive, responsive, and innovative Canadian privacy legal advice on a wide range of issues.,Advise on privacy legal risks, including those from new and emerging technologies, business initiatives, transactions, rights requests, and privacy concerns.,Advise on the intersection of privacy with AI, human rights, and employment matters.,Keep apprised of developments in Canadian privacy legislation and case law.,Identify legal issues with organizational implications and provide practical recommendations.,Collaborate with colleagues in the CIBC Legal Department.,Partner with functional groups like the Privacy Office, Communications, Compliance, and Risk.,Independently engage and work with external legal counsel.

Ideal Candidate

Experience providing Canadian privacy legal advice on complex issues.,Experience mitigating legal and reputational risk, especially with new and emerging technologies.,Relevant experience from a bank, similar large organization (tech or fintech), or a top-tier law firm is an asset.,Experience advising on AI, human rights, and employment matters is valued.,Current accreditation and good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
