The Senior Consultant, Business Controls will lead the management of significant, widespread, and emerging risks within the Specialized Advice and/or Imperial Service lines of business in Canadian Banking. This role involves developing and implementing integrated control improvement solutions across all products and distribution channels, managing key controls to mitigate operational exposures and potential losses, and supporting CIBC’s Control Framework to ensure compliance with regulatory, legislative, and operational requirements. The Senior Consultant will also manage deficiency remediation and act as a key relationship manager for the business. This role operates within a hybrid work arrangement, requiring 1-3 days per week on-site.

What We're Looking For

Manage key relationships and collaborate with business partners, 2nd and 3rd lines of defense for all matters relating to operational risk.,Manage relationships at peer or director level, as well as project/initiative managers within assigned Lines of Business (LOBs).,Represent Business Controls on key business initiatives.,Work closely with LOB partners to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps.,Analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes, and control gaps to determine materiality.,Propose recommendations to mitigate risk exposures/control gaps.,Lead Incident Reporting investigation for Banking Centre and Imperial Service and Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) process.,Manage all deficiencies for the LOB, ensuring closure dates are met.,Lead the implementation of remediation plans for targeted control gaps/special projects.,Lead the completion of all CIBC Control Framework requirements.,Act as the risk and control Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing expert advice to LOB partners.,Lead all Internal Audits, Compliance exams for the business.,Provide ongoing management of self-assessment processes.,Participate in larger, more complex business, governance, and regulatory projects to identify risk and control issues, recommend solutions, and develop control requirements.,Understand and communicate the Control Framework requirements to LOB partners.,Act as the SOX Officer/Maintenance Officer (SOMO) for Operational Process Controls (OPC) and Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) controls.,Develop and recommend new/changes to Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities (KAR) and formal key Control and Non-Key Control testing programs.,Develop reporting and summarize control testing results for LOB/Executive reviews and sign-off processes.

Ideal Candidate

Experience in Governance, Business Controls, Risk Management, and/or Audit roles.,Financial/Banking sector experience is an asset.,In-depth understanding of key businesses and processes.,Extensive knowledge of risk management principles, practices, policies and procedures.,Understanding and ability to communicate Control Framework requirements (Risk & Controls Self-Assessments, Scenarios, Deficiency Management, Incident Reporting, Regulatory Compliance Incidents, Key Risk Indicators).,Ability to influence and build relationships.,Strong analytical skills to investigate complex problems and make sense of information.,Attention to detail and critical thinking skills.,Proactive and takes ownership of tasks.,Passion for people and building diverse networks.,Adherence to CIBC values: trust, teamwork, and accountability.
