Senior Applied Machine Learning Scientist, Insider Risk and Trading Surveillance Model Validation

The Model Validation (MV) group at TD is seeking a Senior Applied Machine Learning Scientist to lead a team of quantitative professionals. This role involves independently validating and approving analytical models, specifically Financial Crime Risk Management (FCRM) models for Trading Surveillance and Insider Risk Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and supervising validation testing plans, ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of validations, communicating with stakeholders, delivering high-quality validation reports, and recommending model approvals or corrective actions. Additionally, the role includes maintaining expertise in FCRM modeling and contributing to the development of validation standards and procedures.

What We're Looking For

Lead a team of quantitative professionals to validate Financial Crime Risk Management (FCRM) models for Trading Surveillance and Insider Risk Management.,Develop and supervise effective and efficient validation testing plans to meet business initiatives and regulatory requirements.,Ensure all material and critical model limitations are captured and the execution accuracy of validation testing.,Support effective communication with stakeholders and resolve model limitations/issues to meet validation lead time targets.,Deliver high-quality model validation reports with adequate information and justification.,Recommend model approval or other corrective actions based on independent vetting and validation.,Maintain full professional knowledge of techniques and developments in FCRM modeling for Trading Surveillance and Insider Risk Management.,Assume a leadership role in developing standards and procedures for vetting and validation compliant with internal policies and industry best practices.,Lead and develop the internal team, setting performance objectives, providing feedback, and supporting personal development.,Communicate group objectives and strategies, aligning team activities with business objectives.,Respond to requests from Canadian and U.S. regulators, internal, and external audit.,Work effectively with internal model development group, Audit, and other internal partners.,Provide people management leadership including hiring, goal setting, staff development, performance, and compensation decisions.,Act as a strategic partner to leadership on FCRM model risk management, identifying emerging trends and operational efficiencies.,Facilitate key strategic discussions and provide thought leadership to executive audiences.,Set operational team direction and collaborate on common goals.,Focus on longer-range planning for the functional area (12 months or greater).

Ideal Candidate

Post-secondary degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, financial engineering, or engineering.,4+ years of experience in either developing or validating FCRM models with exposure to AI/ML modelling.,1+ year of experience in managing a small team.,In-depth knowledge of FCRM modeling for Trading Surveillance and Insider Risk Management, Trading Strategy and Algorithm, and FI operations.,Proficiency in relevant programming languages and software such as Python, H2O.AI, Scala.
