Manages the plant laboratory operations, ensuring product safety, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company standards. This role drives continuous improvement in quality, provides leadership and training in food safety, and oversees the HACCP program and customer complaints.
Manage plant laboratory operations, including supplies and equipment.
Ensure product safety, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company standards (Quality Assurance Manual, Laboratory Manual, Company directives).
Drive continuous improvement efforts in product quality/performance and process optimization.
Provide leadership, coaching, education, and training for management and plant employees in Quality Assurance and Food Safety.
Develop, facilitate, and maintain the current HACCP program.
View, manage, and respond to customer complaints.
Support and oversee Food Safety policies, activities, training, and FSMA program compliance.
Implement and maintain all Saputo quality systems (i.e. SQF).
Review all product labels used in the facility and ensure adherence to regulatory and Company standards.
Maintain or ensure the maintenance of the Saputo Nutritional Database System for the facility.
Ensure adherence to appropriate regulations and Company standards for raw milk quality.
Supervise appropriate chemical, bacteriological, sensory, and utilization tests on raw materials and pasteurized products.
Communicate quality metric and inspection results to appropriate managers and others in leadership positions, including daily, weekly, or monthly KPI reporting.
Ensure that proper sanitation procedures are utilized and that adequate sanitation tests are performed; provide troubleshooting efforts in the event of sanitation system failure.
Develop and maintain documentation of all required quality tests and activities.
Assist in managing local, state, customer/third party, and federal audits and inspections.
Responsible for expense management and control, including labor and “Cost of Quality” utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques and a Management Operating Structure (MOS).
Ensure adherence to all contract packaging quality requirements.
Cooperate in a cross-functional manner as a change agent with all departments within the Company.
Lead by example with the Saputo Code of Ethics and actively apply the Saputo Values, following Company policies, standards, and specifications.
Engage in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, training, organizing, integrating, and delegating.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices.
Possesses a working knowledge of sanitation systems, techniques, and procedures.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
Possesses understanding of the basics of change management.
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
