Managing Counsel - the U.S. Legal Labor and Employment

Description

The Managing Counsel will join the U.S. Legal Labor and Employment team at TD Bank, N.A. This role involves providing expert legal advice on labor and employment matters to various business lines and stakeholders. The successful candidate will also manage other legal professionals, handle employment litigation, oversee external counsel, and manage budgets. A key aspect is partnering with HR to identify and mitigate risks and promote best practices in employment law compliance.

What We're Looking For

Manage Senior Counsel, Counsel, Associate Counsel, and/or paralegal staff.,Provide leadership, coaching, counseling, and guidance to staff.,Supervise external counsel.,Work closely with General Counsel and department attorneys on specific legal issues.,Lead or serve in practice groups or cross-practice teams.,Advise lines of business on best practices to minimize legal and litigation risk.,Assist in developing and managing departmental budgets.,Lead highly complex and sensitive negotiations, considering long-term consequences.,Anticipate client needs and deal with complex legal issues.,Deliver difficult messages clearly without jeopardizing client relationships.,Provide pragmatic legal opinions with reasons and rationale.,Provide advice in ambiguous situations, identify and prevent future legal risks, and identify future opportunities.,Resolve conflicts between business units and company interests without senior attorney intervention.,Recognize opportunities to use legal expertise to contribute to the business.,Demonstrate highest professional ethical and behavioral standards and comply with Bar Rules and Codes of Professional Responsibility.,Participate in special projects.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor's degree required.,J.D. from an Accredited Law School required.,15+ Years of related experience.,Substantial knowledge and depth of experience of at least one area of law relating to banking/financial services operations and issues.,Integrity and high moral standards.,Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.,Strong legal and analysis skills.,Detail oriented.,Proven ability to apply legal knowledge to the business.,Proven ability to exercise sound judgment.,Strong interpersonal skills.,Expert oral and written communication skills.,Strong teamwork and client skills.,Highly motivated.,Proven ability to provide difficult, complex and unwelcome legal advice credibly and convincingly to management.,Strong technology aptitude including proficiency with standard office software, ability to learn and apply new technologies, and capacity to understand current and emerging technologies.,Ability to identify problems and barriers, and effectively implement solutions.,Operates with creativity and innovation; seeks different perspectives and new ideas.,Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.,Understands the value of knowledge management, builds and supports systems and tools.
