Description

The Manager, Tax - Trust, reporting to the Director, Tax Services, will oversee and train junior staff, prepare complex tax returns, and review tax returns. This role ensures timely and accurate completion of tax compliance for complex Estate and Trust accounts, handling various income tax compliance, planning, and administrative duties. The position involves understanding business structures, gathering information for tax preparation, and ensuring timely filing and compliance for client accounts. It also includes liaising with tax teams, CIBC Trust staff, external professionals, and clients to resolve taxation issues and implement tax strategies effectively. The role requires strong technical expertise in estate and trust taxation, reviewing various income tax returns, identifying tax planning opportunities, and acting as a technical resource for the Executive Trust Associate Team. Responsibilities also include managing projects with limited supervision and corresponding with the CRA.

What We're Looking For

Manage new and junior staff and conduct training sessions.,Prepare complex tax returns and oversee/review tax returns.,Ensure effective and timely completion for complex Estate and Trust accounts.,Fulfill a variety of income tax compliance, planning, and administrative functions.,Understand business structure and associated risks.,Gather relevant information for complex tax return preparation.,Perform calculations, complete required schedules, and organize information for complex returns.,Review client accounts to ensure compliance obligations are filed on time, ensuring credit optimization and all reporting obligations are met.,Liaise with Tax team, CIBC Trust staff, outside tax professionals, and clients.,Explain and resolve taxation issues and implement tax strategies effectively.,Accurately review personal, Estate, and trust income tax returns and schedules.,Identify post-mortem and other tax planning opportunities.,Act as a technical tax resource to the Executive Trust Associate Team and tax team personnel.,Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment, objection notices, and Clearance Certificate requests for filing.,Correspond with the CRA to provide requested information.,Review complex tax returns such as GRE’s and terminal T1 returns, rights or things.,Participate in Special Projects as assigned.,Ability to manage and train junior staff.,Ability to take ownership of assigned projects with limited supervision.

Ideal Candidate

CPA/CA certification.,Current accreditation and good standing in STEP, CSI, or Taxation Courses.,Degree/diploma in Accounting.,Experience in managing workloads, taking full ownership, working independently.,Experience in preparing and reviewing tax returns (T1, T1 terminal (final), T3 trusts and estate returns).,Assistance with outsourcing tax returns/identify tax planning opportunities.,Familiarity with graduated rate estates, including their benefits.,Strong tax research and computer skills (asset).,Ability to work paperless and with Tax prep software (asset).
