Maintenance Mechanic

Description

This role at Saputo involves diagnosing, repairing, and rebuilding various plant and process equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. It requires performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The position also includes operating forklifts and aerial platforms, various welding and machining tasks, and maintaining ammonia, HVAC, door, steam, and plumbing systems. Weekend and holiday work may be required, and the individual is expected to maintain a clean and organized work area.

What We're Looking For

Diagnose malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

Repair/rebuild various plant and process equipment (pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves).

Repair/rebuild/replace hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; understand flow controls.

Understand and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).

Repair/replace instrumentation (level sensors, RTDs, chart recorders, prox sensors, photo eyes).

Use a CMMS to process work orders, PMs, look up inventory, and order parts.

Operate forklifts and aerial platforms.

Perform required Preventative Maintenance on plant and process equipment.

Drill, file, grind, and cut various materials using hand and/or power tools.

Saw various metals using chop or band saws.

Weld various metals using wire feed, stick, or TIG.

Machine various materials using a mill and/or lathe.

Weld and polish stainless steel to 3A standards for the dairy industry.

Perform electrical troubleshooting (amp/voltage readings, testing fuses, understanding electrical prints).

Repair/replace electrical components (fuses, relays, transformers, wiring).

Start, stop, adjust, and troubleshoot the ammonia system; replace/repair ammonia equipment.

Possess a working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.

Repair HVAC systems and controls.

Repair, inspect, replace door systems (closures, strikes, fire doors, overhead doors, roll-up doors, man doors).

Plumbing (repair/replace fixtures, clear clogs, piping, repair water heaters).

Repair/replace equipment on the steam system (valves, traps, return pumps, conductivity tests).

Conduct boiler water tests and operate the boiler as needed during weekend and holiday rotation.

Work with co-workers and supervisor to resolve maintenance problems.

Keep work area and tools clean and organized.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; perform these operations using weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Ability to work while frequently exposed to extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. independently and/or move up to 100 lbs. with assistance as needed.

Ability to complete at least one job related course per semester.

Long periods of time standing, walking, climbing up to 4 flights of stairs, climbing ladders.
