Moderna is seeking a Linux Engineer to join their International Business Services Hub in Warsaw, Poland. This role involves operating and optimizing the Linux server environment, supporting critical infrastructure for research and pharmaceutical production systems. The engineer will focus on performance, availability, and security, utilizing expertise in enterprise Linux distributions, automation, and system integration, and exploring emerging tools like generative AI.
Serve as the technical owner for enterprise Linux systems (Amazon Linux, Ubuntu, RHEL) across on-premises and cloud platforms (VMware, AWS, Azure).,Design, configure, and maintain Linux systems for research and production.,Perform root cause analysis and advanced troubleshooting across system, network, and authentication layers.,Ensure system performance and availability through proactive monitoring and configuration management.,Automate infrastructure operations using shell scripting, Ansible, Python, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code frameworks.,Integrate Linux systems with Active Directory using realmd, sssd, and winbind.,Configure Kerberos, LDAP, NSS, PAM, TLS/SSL, keytabs, and SPNs.,Support containerized workloads with Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes.,Implement and maintain storage solutions including LVM, iSCSI, and NFS.,Partner with cybersecurity teams for compliance and security software integration.,Contribute to observability efforts using Prometheus, Dynatrace, or Splunk.,Develop implementation plans, test procedures, and operational readiness scripts.,Maintain clear documentation, diagrams, and system inventories.,Participate in on-call rotations and address escalated incidents.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).,3–5 years of professional experience supporting Linux in a mixed OS environment.,Strong understanding of multiple Linux distributions and core services/daemons.,Proven ability to troubleshoot system, network, and performance issues.,Experience with patch management, endpoint protection, compliance, and server hardening.,Familiarity with hybrid multi-cloud environments and virtualization technologies.,Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills, especially across global teams.,Preferred: Linux certifications (RHCSA/RHCE, LFCS/LFCE, LPIC).,Preferred: Industry certifications (AWS, CISSP, CISM, ITIL).,Preferred: Experience in regulated or security-sensitive environments (e.g., GxP, DISA-STIG, CIS, PCI).,Preferred: Ability to work independently and develop long-term strategic infrastructure goals.
