Life and Health Medical Insurance Underwriter (French and English Bilingualism)

Description

This role within the Underwriting Department involves assessing mortality and morbidity risks for various insurance products, including Creditor Life, Critical Illness, and Term Life Insurance. The Underwriter will gather risk information, make appropriate medical underwriting decisions, support the claims department, and communicate decisions with detailed explanations to clients and physicians. A key focus is on ensuring underwriting practices meet business guidelines and service standards, with an emphasis on customer experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The position also entails creating first-level problem and complaint resolutions, processing referrals, developing training sessions on medical topics, and participating in projects.

What We're Looking For

Perform appropriate medical underwriting assessment and decisions for each risk according to plan limits and underwriting philosophy.,Gather insurance risk information via written supplemental health questionnaires or phone conversations with customers.,Provide support to the claims department and handle claim referrals.,Communicate underwriting decisions and detailed explanations of adverse handlings promptly and accurately to clients and, where required, to attending physicians.,Ensure applications are underwritten and processed according to TD's underwriting guidelines as well as third-party agreements.,Create and deliver first-level problem and complaint resolution.,Process underwriter referrals, create training sessions on medical topics, and participate in projects.

Ideal Candidate

Minimum of 5 years medical underwriting and insurance experience or a degree/diploma in health sciences.,Actively working on either a LOMA or ALU course or designation, or working towards ALU, FLMI, and FALU designations.,Solid knowledge of underwriting function and sound understanding of the Company's various business operations.,Willingness to demonstrate professional development by attending industry meetings and participating in continuing education courses.
