Description

This role involves leading the technical design, development, and integration of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems, as well as enhancing existing technologies. The Lead Software Engineer will work on complex issues, mentor employees, and perform advanced technical tasks. They will collaborate with developers, architects, and infrastructure specialists to gather requirements, research new tools and techniques, identify best practices, and anticipate long-term business issues. The role also includes devising new methods and procedures, and developing project plans. CIBC supports a hybrid work arrangement with 1-3 days per week on-site.

What We're Looking For

Lead projects with moderate oversight, owning outcomes, scope, and task delegation, translating goals into clear technical plans.,Design and deliver secure, scalable solutions for Java Stack, guiding architecture, driving automation, testing, CI/CD, and observability, while reducing technical debt and improving performance and reliability.,Apply comprehensive banking product and regulatory knowledge, leverage industry trends for process/product improvements, and make data-driven trade-offs.,Lead project-level risk assessments, define mitigation plans, embed security/privacy-by-design, ensure policy adherence, and partner with Compliance and Audit.,Build strong relationships across product, design, operations, and partner teams, communicate status/risks/decisions, influence cross-functional outcomes, mentor developers, and lead code reviews.

Ideal Candidate

Experience in developing Java-based backend services in a cloud/containerized environment, ideally within financial services or technology.,Ability to lead projects or initiatives with moderate oversight, including task delegation and decision-making.,Exposure to polyglot environments (Java, Python, .Net).,Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.,Acts like an owner, empowered to take initiative and deliver results.,Strong critical thinking skills.,Expert interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and problem-solving skills, including effective engagement with all levels of the organization.
