Description

The Lab Technician II is responsible for selecting and testing products at various production stages for chemical and microbiological attributes, accurately recording and analyzing data, and communicating results to relevant groups. This role requires advanced knowledge of microbiology, standard testing methods, and proficiency with various laboratory equipment and environmental monitoring programs. Key tasks include conducting independent testing, assisting with technical report writing, and maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.

What We're Looking For

Selects products for tests at specified stages in the production process.

Tests products for various chemical and microbiological attributes.

Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.

Enters data into manufacturing and database software and spreadsheets.

Communicates out-of-range/out-of-specification results to the proper distribution group.

Has an advanced understanding of microbiology, standard methods/AOAC, and 2400 series.

Has a proficient understanding of Petrifilm applications.

Is a Certified Industry Supervisor for Appendix N.

Is a Certified Industry Analyst for Charm F-AP.

Is able to conduct full testing and reporting independently.

Understands laboratory equipment such as EZ Readers, FT1, FoodScan, Process Scan, pH meters, etc., to assist with troubleshooting.

Has a strong understanding of environmental monitoring programs including zoning.

Performs environmental, pre-operational, and operational swabs.

Assists with annual swab-a-thon and tightened situations.

Possesses technical report writing skills to assist with creating and reviewing Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.

Maintains laboratory and work areas, including sanitation, cleaning, general repair, and restocking.

Keeps laboratory areas clean and organized.

Demonstrates initiative and strong interpersonal, communication, and team skills.

Is willing and able to work in any assigned laboratory area.

Is self-motivated and a self-starter.

Demonstrates safe and quality-conscious work habits and follows all company policies and procedures.

Serves on the plant safety team.

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

Is available for overtime as required.

Ideal Candidate

Associate's degree in a science-related field required.

2 years related experience preferred.

Bachelor's degree in a science-related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to pass written exam and lab practicum (may be required).

Ability to work with computers.

1st shift - Monday-Friday (alternating weekends), Overtime as required
