Engineer I, Manufacturing Execution Systems

Description

This role acts as a primary partner for manufacturing operations, offering day-to-day user support for digital manufacturing systems and leading continuous improvements across Moderna's manufacturing network. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving incidents, guiding users on best practices, and ensuring smooth production in a GMP environment. The position offers exposure to various biopharmaceutical processes (plasmid, drug substance, drug product, individualized therapies) and manufacturing digital technologies like process automation and recipe design. The engineer will also contribute to team growth by mentoring junior engineers and fostering a strong support culture.

What We're Looking For

Serve as the first point of contact for shop-floor users for Apprentice Tempo, Syncade, DeltaV, Aveva SCADA Platform, Aveva PI, and BMS.,Troubleshoot complex issues, resolve, and document them.,Perform structured troubleshooting across application, configuration, and basic infrastructure layers, escalating when necessary.,Coordinate with Operations, Quality, and IT to quickly restore service and minimize production impact.,Maintain and improve support knowledge (runbooks, KB articles, SOPs) and provide user coaching to reduce repeat issues.,Execute standard change-control activities related to support in alignment with GxP and data-integrity expectations.,Monitor system health and alerts, identify patterns, and propose CAPAs or continuous improvement suggestions.,Participate in planned maintenance windows for support validation and post-maintenance checks.,Contribute to compliance activities (deviations, investigations, periodic reviews) from a systems-support perspective.,Mentor junior team members through shadowing, ticket reviews, feedback on documentation, and support onboarding and skills development.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.,Clear communication skills to convey complex information to various stakeholders.,Ability to work first, second, or third shifts to support 24/7 operation.,Site-based position requiring full-time presence at Moderna's site; not eligible for remote work.,Must hold work authorization in the US and be able to maintain status without future sponsorship.,Depth in two or more systems: Tempo, Syncade, Aveva SCADA, DeltaV, or BMS, with familiarity in their integrations (Preferred).,Experience in MES business processes for electronic batch record execution and working knowledge of automation systems (Preferred).,Working understanding of cGMP manufacturing operations, GAMP, and CSV/change-control practices (Preferred).,Demonstrated strength in incident triage, root-cause analysis, and clear written documentation (Preferred).,Ability to partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders under time-sensitive conditions (Preferred).,Understanding of integrated digital systems and ability to triage issues spanning multiple systems (Preferred).,Strong customer-service mindset; confident facilitating user training and delivering concise how-to (Preferred).,Experience coaching or mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team knowledge-sharing practices (Preferred).,Continuous-improvement orientation—experience reducing ticket volume through standardization or automation initiatives (Preferred).
