The role involves supporting corporate and private capital clients with strategic advice and corporate finance advisory services, including mergers and acquisitions, and debt and equity capital raising within CIBC's Investment Bank. Specifically, the US Financial Institutions Group (FIG) team focuses on financial institutions across specialty finance, financial technology, insurance, asset and wealth management. The successful candidate will lead deal execution, client relationship support, industry and company analysis, and collaborate with banking partners globally. They will also be responsible for complex financial analyses and models, client service, and identifying investment banking opportunities.
Lead the execution of all facets of the group’s mandates and overall priorities,Act as the central point of contact between the deal team and client team members throughout transaction execution,Conduct deal related due diligence activities and present findings internally as well as directly to the client,Identify and anticipate clients’ needs and provide excellent client service through coverage and transaction execution,Lead and oversee financial modeling and other financial analyses and provide corresponding recommendations to internal and client stakeholders,Research, develop and maintain a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses, investments and industry to assist in the identification and analysis of investment banking business opportunities,Ensure the team is aware of material developments in the industry and the market in which clients operate,Conduct client meetings alongside other CIBC team members,Assist senior investment banking colleagues to identify opportunities for fee-paying mandates with clients,Ensure that recommendations and opinions offered to clients are in compliance with legislation and maintain professional standards and policies of CIBC,Coordinate client-focused and/or deal-focused internal “brainstorming” sessions,Liaise with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in preparing proposals for clients,Develop relationships and actively communicate with various appropriate contacts at clients,Develop and maintain internal and external networks,Support CIBC’s image through involvement in community activities,Actively manage and mentor Associates and Analysts, providing regular coaching, teaching, and feedback
Undergraduate degree in Finance, accounting, business, mathematics, computer science, economics or other relevant fields.,MBA, Masters in Finance or completion of the CFA is an asset, but not a requirement.,5+ years of previous experience in corporate finance, investment banking/capital markets, and/or private equity, or similar experience.,Experience must include meaningful client management and financial modeling and analysis.,Strong knowledge of the financial institutions sector, particularly across specialty finance, financial technology, and/or insurance.,Excellent analytical ability, including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices (cash flow and returns analysis).,Strong knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations.
