Epic Games is seeking a Technical Art Director to define the visual and technical direction for the next generation of mobile experiences. This role bridges art and programming to deliver exceptional, performant, and fluid visuals across a wide range of devices, from high-end platforms to mid-range smartphones. You will design tools, production processes, and rendering solutions, enabling artists to create beautiful, optimized, and scalable content in Unreal Engine.
Lead and mentor a team of technical artists focused on creating optimized, high-quality visuals for mobile and multi-platform experiences; collaborate with art, design, and programming teams to balance visual fidelity, performance, and production efficiency.
Develop and maintain material, lighting, and rendering processes to support both mobile and high-end platforms.
Design tools and pipelines for efficient iteration and validation across various device profiles.
Establish and enforce standards for asset optimization, texture compression, and draw call management.
Analyze, profile, and optimize content to ensure consistent performance and optimal scalability.
Collaborate with gameplay, animation, and VFX teams to ensure visual elements support game readability and responsiveness.
Contribute to defining technical art best practices applicable to multiple projects and visual styles.
Proven experience in technical art direction or supervision for real-time projects on mobile or multi-platform.
Excellent understanding of Unreal Engine's rendering process, materials, and profiling tools.
Strong technical expertise in shaders, lighting, performance optimization, and asset validation.
Experience with both lightweight and advanced rendering techniques (dynamic lighting, post-processing, material layering, and virtualized geometry).
Ability to develop tools and production processes adapted to visual styles ranging from stylized to realistic.
Good knowledge of mobile GPU software frameworks, memory constraints, and cross-platform performance considerations.
Experience with Unreal Engine 5's next-generation rendering features (Lumen, Nanite, virtual shadow maps) and adaptation strategies for different hardware performance levels.
Confirmed experience in technical art direction or supervision for real-time projects on mobile or multi-platform.
