Community Mortgage Loan Officer

Description

The Community Mortgage Loan Officer identifies and cultivates a network of community organizations, Realtors, and government agencies to generate mortgage lending referrals, with a focus on Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Low-and Moderate-Income (LMI), Multicultural, and First Time Homebuyer segments. This role involves taking loan applications, communicating underwriting decisions, increasing mortgage loan volume, and representing the bank in community initiatives. The officer also guides customers through the application process, ensures accuracy, manages expectations, and maintains communication with all parties involved to ensure timely closings. They must stay informed on market trends and regulations and continuously develop referral sources.

What We're Looking For

Identify, develop, and maintain a quality network of community-based organizations, Realtors, and local state/government agencies for mortgage lending referrals, emphasizing CRA, LMI, Multicultural, and First Time Homebuyer segments.,Take residential mortgage loan applications and communicate underwriting decisions, including offers and counter-offers.,Increase mortgage loan volume with a focus on CRA, LMI, and multicultural borrowers.,Research organizations and agencies focused on serving low-and moderate-income persons and communities.,Establish relationships with non-profit organizations, realtors, state and local housing offices, and community-based affordable housing organizations.,Represent the bank in community-based meetings and initiatives (e.g., housing seminars, financial literacy programs, affordable housing conferences).,Explain various mortgage products and services, offering recommendations based on prospect needs.,Sell other Company products and services as appropriate.,Guide customers through the mortgage application process, explain requirements, and deliver disclosures.,Ensure applications are completed accurately with required information and supporting documentation.,Manage expectations regarding processing times and closing dates.,Communicate regularly with customers, underwriters, processors, realtors, and closing agents.,Coordinate additional information requests, clarifications, and problem-solving.,Inform management of progress relative to goals and seek assistance as needed.,Originate residential mortgage loans according to established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.,Communicate loan decisions directly to customers and facilitate clearing of conditions.,Maintain current information on local real estate market trends, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.,Maintain and grow a network of outside referral sources (e.g., real estate brokers, builders, attorneys, accountants, financial planners).,Enter information into the mortgage loan system and create supporting files for documentation.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor’s degree or progressive work experience.,3+ years related experience.,Growing network of outside contacts to generate quality referral business.,Self-directed, with the ability to plan activities to achieve sales goals.,Excellent time management skills.,PC skills, including knowledge of mortgage origination and automated underwriting systems.,Active registration status with NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry).,Established network of community-based organizations, municipalities, and agencies focused on affordable housing and first-time homebuyer education.,Demonstrated sales ability.,In-depth knowledge of mortgage industry, products, lending practices, and regulatory guidelines.,Minimum target annual loan originations of 48 LMI/multicultural units.

Special Commitments

Must maintain an active registration status with NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry).,Must be eligible for employment with a covered financial institution under Regulation Z and the SAFE Act.,Must be eligible for registration as a registered mortgage loan originator with the NMLS.,Requires satisfactory results on a criminal background check and a credit report check.,Requires statements/certification from job applicant regarding administrative, civil, and/or criminal findings by any government agency/authority.,Occasional domestic travel.
