This role at CIBC focuses on ensuring credit underwriting objectives are met for new loan originations within the US Commercial Real Estate (CRE) sector. The manager is responsible for consistently underwriting new deals, analyzing and mitigating risks, and presenting materials throughout the loan origination lifecycle. The position involves close collaboration with client management and asset management teams, direct engagement with syndications, capital markets, and borrowers, while maintaining a client-focused approach to the CRE business.
Ensure objectives related to credit underwriting for new loan origination activities are met.,Produce consistent new deal underwriting to analyze, present, and mitigate risk for new credits.,Accountable for all material presented throughout the loan origination life-cycle in various committees.,Develop expertise in all aspects of the credit life cycle (underwriting, loan presentations, closing).,Prepare materials for pre-screen by the assigned Client Management team.,Exercise non-credit approval authority up to approved limits.,Stay current on industry/market conditions, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.,Recommend appropriate risk ratings in collaboration with the DP Team Lead.,Understand CIBC appetite/limit capacity for deal-specific attributes.,Escalate “Issues List” from loan document negotiation to Client Manager and DP Team Lead.,Work with DP Team Lead on evolving trends in Commercial Real Estate.,Ensure that policy, procedure, and reference material governing loan originations and closings are appropriately followed.,Provide feedback for Enterprise Risk Management’s Known and Emerging Risk Meetings.,Provide appropriate materials and submissions to support the HPA in response to regulators and auditors.,Work with DP Team Lead to ensure issue remediation strategy is sufficient, sustainable, and timely.,Work with DP Team Lead and/or HDP in developing and executing management action plans.,Ensure that the HDP has appropriate materials and submissions to support regulatory filings.,Respond to second line challenge of line of business risk identification and review.,Escalate data incident reports and ensure information is captured accurately.
5+ years of demonstrated experience in underwriting, structuring, loan closing, documentation, and portfolio management.,Developed knowledge of regulatory expectations and industry best practices in risk management.,Developed knowledge and understanding of financial risks (credit, market and/or liquidity) and/or non-financial risks (operational, compliance, reputation, strategic).,Understanding of financial services businesses and products.,Strong team player and able to work productively with colleagues towards common goals.,Excellent written and verbal communication skills.,Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.,Results oriented with a high degree of attention to detail.,Developed ability to provide basic credit expertise within Commercial Real Estate.,Well versed in all key systems, applications, and models used, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products with advanced knowledge of financial analysis and modeling.
