Description

Provides cleaning and maintenance of laboratory animal caging, equipment, and cage preparation areas, along with general animal support area cleaning. Responsibilities also include operating equipment safely, sanitizing and repairing caging, maintaining facilities, disposing of waste, performing preventative maintenance on equipment, assisting with supply inventories, preparing records, and interacting with customers. Specific duties may involve dumping soiled bedding, preparing cages for washing, using cage washers or hand washing, cleaning preparation and storage areas, ensuring logbook completion, flushing animal racks, managing chemical supplies, performing animal husbandry (cage changing, feeding, watering), assisting with general housekeeping, and maintaining equipment.

Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines.,Performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.,Sanitizes, maintains, and repairs caging materials.,Maintains cagewash and animal holding facilities in a clean and organized manner, adhering to all SOP and facility requirements.,Disposes of waste materials in a safe and thorough manner.,Maintains facility equipment and performs routine preventative maintenance on cagewash and autoclaves, including routine inspection of cleaning filters and roto-arms.,Assists with the receipt, stocking, and maintenance of supply inventories.,Prepares and submits required written records, charts, logs, and inventories.,Actively interacts with customers to resolve requests, inquiries, and complaints, and to provide technical assistance.,Maintains consistent practice of general company and safety policies and procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances.,Performs all duties in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.,Maintains required attendance level and adheres to work schedule.,Dumps and scrapes soiled bedding from caging and prepares caging for cagewash.,Sanitizes caging and related equipment using cage washers, pressure washer or hand washing.,Properly disposes of soiled bedding and waste.,Cleans and sanitizes cage preparation and storage areas.,Ensures that all logbooks, checklists and other records are completed in a timely fashion.,Flushes all animal racks.,Ensures proper amounts of chemicals are present and reports any chemical needs to the supervisor.,Performs animal husbandry duties including but not limited to preparation and actual changing of cages and related cage accessories, feeding, and manual watering or monitoring/testing automatic watering devices.,Assists housekeeping duties such as trash collection and cleaning animal facility laboratories, offices and ancillary areas.,Maintains equipment used in performance of work and/or reports the problem to supervisor promptly.,Operate Techniplast washer in accordance with SOP.,Operate and maintain Steris autoclaves.

Ideal Candidate

Some experience and/or training working with mechanical equipment preferred.,No certification/licensure required.,High school diploma or GED preferred.
