Azure SQL Database Engineer
Description
This role involves the deployment, migration, implementation, and administration of databases, with a focus on both on-premise and Azure SQL Databases. The engineer will be responsible for performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, backups, error checks, and replication, working with other teams to resolve issues. Key tasks include installing, configuring, maintaining, and patching SQL Servers, testing backup/recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery, and deploying new databases and code while providing after-hours support. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement.
What We're Looking For
Manage SQL Server Databases, Azure SQL databases, and instances, including backup and restore operations for both on-premise and Azure SQL databases.,Monitor SQL Agent jobs and respond to critical job notifications.,Troubleshoot and resolve production system problems, escalating issues as needed.,Automate common management tasks using PowerShell.,Evaluate data access and security to ensure availability and protection of electronic data resources.,Work collaboratively with application support and development teams (architects, developers) for project success.,Assist in project planning and management, create documentation and maintenance plans, and assign monitoring threshold values.,Provide troubleshooting and support, including after-hours support.
Ideal Candidate
8+ years of experience in SQL Database Administration with relational databases.,Experience with backup strategies, replication, and DR solutions for SQL.,Experience monitoring and tuning MS SQL Server databases for optimum performance.,Deep knowledge of indexes, index management, statistics, and performance tuning.,Comprehensive expertise in SQL Server database administration.,Thorough familiarity with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server deployed on Azure Virtual Machines.,Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or equivalent is preferred.,Microsoft Azure Certification is desired.,Basic PowerShell and Python knowledge or any other scripting language is an asset.,Familiarity with SQL Integration Services, Postgres, and Oracle is an asset.
