This role at TD Insurance involves assessing mortality and morbidity risks for individual and creditor insurance products. The underwriter will review medical and non-medical information to make decisions, communicate with reinsurers and clients, support the claims department, and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines. Review, assess, analyze, and evaluate detailed medical and non-medical risks to determine mortality ratings and make substantiated logical final decisions.,Make appropriate medical underwriting assessments and decisions for each risk according to the limits of the plan and underwriting philosophy, meeting business guidelines and service standards.,Decide and interpret MIB findings and determine required MIB coding subsequent to the final decision.,Communicate/negotiate with reinsurers for final decisions and applicable ratings.,Provide support to the claims department and handle claim referrals.,Communicate underwriting decisions and detailed explanations of adverse handlings promptly and accurately to clients and, where required, to attending physicians.,Ensure applications are underwritten and processed according to TD’s underwriting guidelines as well as the terms of the third-party agreements.,Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with other TD Insurance departments, bank departments, and reinsurers.,Monitor and maintain service and production standards set for the department, assisting own team members in meeting these departmental standards/goals.,Participate in continuing education and self-development courses to remain current in medical advancements and trends.
Minimum of 2+ years of insurance underwriting and/or a degree/diploma in Health Sciences or other medical background.,Working toward license desired AALU ALMI designations, Industry related courses and/or accreditations (LOMA/ALU), or willing to begin working toward these license designations.,Familiarity with underwriting function and eagerness to quickly build sound understanding of functions and company's various business operations.,Participate in continuing education and self-development courses to remain current in medical advancements and trends.
Degree/diploma in Health Sciences or other medical background

Must be working towards or willing to begin working towards FLMI, ALU, and FALU designations.,Eager to continue with professional development by attending industry meetings and participating in continuing education.,Subject to provincial regulation for employment purposes.
