Description

The Applied Machine Learning Scientist II role at TD Bank focuses on ensuring the fair, transparent, and trustworthy application of AI/ML models within the financial system. This individual will review models, manage compliance risks, develop technical standards, and conduct research to position TD as a leader in Responsible and Ethical AI. The role involves close collaboration with business units and stakeholders across the enterprise, contributing to strategic vision and assisting with regulatory inquiries.

What We're Looking For

Review models across TD and build relationships with business units to support compliance risk management.

Monitor regulatory compliance and risk mitigation throughout model lifecycles.

Identify and communicate compliance model risks arising from model design, implementation and deployment decisions to a broad audience of stakeholders.

Represent Compliance in major projects, initiatives, and engagements.

Evaluate model development procedures and practices.

Develop technical standards and guidelines covering model compliance risk matters.

Develop training materials and guidelines to help businesses address regulatory compliance throughout the model lifecycle.

Conduct research on how to identify, assess, and address modeling risks and associated concerns.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of techniques and developments in the field of advanced modeling and share knowledge with business partners and senior management.

Contribute to the organizations' strategic vision on managing AI/ML regulatory compliance and conduct risk as part of enterprise AI workstreams.

Provide guidance and oversight for AI/ML systems across the organization.

Assist with responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations and investigations as applicable.

Work effectively as a team to peer review other team member model reviews and share knowledge.

Establish strong relationships with Business Units, Control Partners, Compliance Units, acting as a primary Compliance contact for model compliance risks.

Coach junior staff and set the bar for technical excellence and compliance rigor through structured mentorship, reviews, and learning pathways.

Ideal Candidate

Advanced technical degree (preferably in computer science, math, statistics, engineering, human-computer interaction or related quantitative field).

8+ years of relevant experience with the model development lifecycle (model validation expertise would be especially advantageous).

Demonstrable engagement with the issues of explainability, fairness, or Responsible AI in the context of advanced Machine Learning or modeling.
