Description

The Animal Technician I at Charles River Laboratories assists in toxicology studies by performing basic animal care tasks, including handling, feeding, and housing maintenance. This role involves observing animal health, collecting data, administering doses, conducting euthanasia, and collecting biological specimens, all while ensuring animal welfare. The position is part of the Integrated Toxicology team at the Kansas City site, focusing on accelerating drug therapy development.

What We're Looking For

Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals, utilizing gentle and positive human-animal interactions.,Perform basic departmental skills such as animal handling/restraint, housing maintenance, and feeding procedures.,Collect data, observe animals for health status, and measure body weight.,Administer doses using various methods, conduct euthanasia, and collect biological specimens for analysis.,Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms or in electronic data capture systems.,Review documentation as part of quality control requirements.,Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.,Perform all other related duties as assigned.,Ability to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.,Ability to work under specific time constraints.,Must be authorized to work in the United States without a sponsor visa, now or in the future.,Ability to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds.,Ability to perform laboratory procedures requiring talking, hearing, standing/sitting for long periods, data entry, using instruments, reaching, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment.

Ideal Candidate

High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.), preferred.,No previous experience required; experience working with/around animals is preferred.,Experience in a role requiring physical labor is a plus.,Excellent written and verbal communication skills.,Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.,Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.,Ability to ensure a safe working environment by observing safety procedures and using protective clothing and equipment.,Ability to perform activities according to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.
