Animal Support Technician I

Description

The Animal Support Technician I will be part of the Insourcing Solutions Department, providing support services to Charles River clients in the South San Francisco, CA area. This role focuses on maintaining high animal welfare standards, providing animal care, and ensuring vivarium cleanliness.

What We're Looking For

Learn and support cagewash and animal care processes.,Monitor animal health and welfare, performing daily health observations and husbandry duties.,Provide appropriate food and water.,Perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning.,Record animal health concerns.,Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species.,Assist with breeding and weaning procedures.,Maintain an organized and clean work environment.,Assist with receiving and housing incoming animals.,Attend and participate in on-the-job and classroom training sessions; complete computer-based safety and professional development training.,Communicate procedural questions and training deficiencies to team lead or supervisor.,Interact with customers to resolve requests, inquiries, and complaints, potentially providing technical assistance.,Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions.,Exhibit interpersonal skills conducive to effective communication and a congenial work environment.,Maintain a positive work atmosphere through professional behavior and communication.,Organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities.,Function independently as well as within a team environment with supervision.,Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for travel between local sites (mileage reimbursed).

Ideal Candidate

High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.).,Bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, Life Sciences or related discipline preferred.,Minimum of six – twelve (6-12) months of husbandry experience with rodents in a laboratory animal facility required.,AALAS certification at the ALAT level preferred or obtained upon eligibility.
