The Animal Care Technician II will work at a client's facility in Washington, DC, focusing on observing, monitoring, and documenting the health and physical environment within the animal facility. The role involves performing animal care and husbandry duties.
Review, comprehend, and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards.,Monitor daily animal health and welfare.,Perform animal husbandry duties including water bottle/automatic water line and cage checks, providing food and water, cage changing/cleaning, and recording health concerns.,Perform daily cage wash duties and sanitation.,Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas.,Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species.,Dispose of animal carcasses following established procedures.,Strictly follow all procedures for maintaining animal housing areas or isolator environments, including personnel entry and PPE use.,Receive, inspect, and put away incoming animals; ensure sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.,May be involved in maintaining and following breeding and weaning procedures.,Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.,Maintain required attendance level and adherence to work schedule.,Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline OR,Associate's degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline and one year of directly related laboratory animal experience in an AAALAC accredited facility OR,High school diploma or GED and two years of directly related laboratory animal experience in an AAALAC accredited facility.,Proficiency with basic animal identification methods.,Ability to obtain AALAS certification at the ALAT level or above.,Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions.,Exhibit interpersonal skills conducive to effective communication and a congenial work environment.,Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating professionally.,Strong organization skills and attention to detail.,Strong written and verbal English communication skills.,Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.,Preferred: AALAS certification at the ALAT level or above.
