Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Care Technician I for their Insourcing Solutions team in San Diego, CA. This role involves maintaining, monitoring, and documenting the health, production, and physical environment of animals in various care facilities. The technician will perform daily animal health observations, husbandry duties, maintain accurate records, assist with animal handling, follow strict procedures for housing environments, and manage incoming animals. This position contributes to the discovery, development, and safe manufacture of new drug therapies.
Review, comprehend, and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards.,Monitor daily animal health and welfare, including health observations and husbandry duties (water, food, cage checks, cleaning).,Record animal health concerns per SOP and protocols.,Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator areas.,Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species.,Strictly follow procedures for animal housing areas, including personnel entry, PPE use, and material spraying.,Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals, ensuring sentinel animals in rodent housing.,May maintain and follow breeding and weaning procedures for appropriate production levels.,Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines, perform general housekeeping, and adhere to safety procedures.,Maintain required attendance and work schedule.,Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. plus a minimum of six to twelve months experience working in a laboratory animal facility performing animal husbandry.,Associate's degree in animal science or related field plus a minimum of six months experience working in a laboratory animal facility performing animal husbandry.,Bachelor's degree in animal science or related field plus zero to six months experience working in laboratory animal facility performing animal husbandry.
