Animal Care Technician I

Description

Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Care Technician I to join their Insourcing Solutions team in Irvine, CA. This role involves ensuring the well-being of research animals through cleaning, maintenance, and husbandry duties. Responsibilities also include monitoring cagewash results, maintaining equipment, assisting with housekeeping, and receiving/inspecting incoming animals.

What We're Looking For

Provide cleaning and maintenance of laboratory animal caging, equipment, and cage preparation areas under supervision.

Remove soiled bedding, prepare caging for cagewash, and sanitize caging and related equipment using various methods (cage washers, pressure washer, hand washing) under supervision.

Monitor and record cagewash water temperature and cleaning results using provided supplies.

Complete all logbooks, checklists, and other records in a timely fashion.

Flush animal racks, prepare clean cages for use, and ensure correct times are selected for each cagewash load.

Ensure proper amounts of chemicals are present and report any chemical needs.

Maintain equipment and report any mechanical failures promptly to the supervisor.

Assist with housekeeping duties such as trash collection and cleaning animal facility laboratories, offices, and ancillary areas.

May perform animal husbandry duties including cage changing, feeding, and watering/monitoring/testing.

Receive, inspect, and put away incoming animals; provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

High School diploma/GED or equivalent (a B.S. in either animal science or life sciences preferred).

One (1) year of animal husbandry experience with laboratory rodents preferred.

AALAS Certification at the ALAT level preferred.

Minimum Education

High School diploma/GED (Bachelor's Degree in animal science or life sciences preferred)
