Animal Care Technician I
Description
Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Care Technician I for their Insourcing Solutions site in Chicago, IL. This role involves daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties such as water bottle/line and cage checks, providing food and water, and performing cage changes to maintain the quality and health of research animals. The technician will also maintain accurate records of animal breeding and housing, assist with receiving and inspecting new animals, help with animal restraint and handling, and may be involved in breeding and weaning procedures. Additional duties include monitoring access to rooms, operating equipment, and general housekeeping.
What We're Looking For
Perform daily animal health observations.,Execute animal husbandry duties (water bottle/line and cage checks, provide food/water, perform cage changes/clean cages).,Maintain accurate records (animal breeding, housing, support areas).,Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals.,Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species.,Engage in animal breeding and weaning procedures.,Monitor personnel and equipment entry into rooms.,Operate required equipment.,Perform general housekeeping.
Ideal Candidate
Associate's degree and 6 months of animal handling, care, and husbandry experience.,OR Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in biology or animal science or a related field with zero experience in animal handling, husbandry experience.,Achieve ALAT certification upon eligibility.
