Animal Care Technician I
Description
The Animal Care Technician I at Charles River Laboratories in Chicago, IL, is responsible for daily animal health observations and husbandry duties, including providing food and water, cleaning cages, and performing cage changes. The role also involves maintaining accurate records of animal breeding and housing, assisting with animal restraint and handling, and potentially participating in breeding and weaning procedures. Other duties may include monitoring access to rooms, operating equipment, and general housekeeping.
What We're Looking For
Perform daily animal health observations.,Perform animal husbandry duties including water bottle/line and cage checks.,Provide food/water to research animals.,Perform cage changes and/or clean cages to maintain animal quality and health.,Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, housing, or support areas.,Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals (may be tasked with).,Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species.,Become involved in animal breeding and weaning procedures (may be involved in).,Monitor personnel and equipment entry into various rooms (may include).,Operate required equipment (may include).,General housekeeping (when required).
Ideal Candidate
Associate's degree and 6 months of animal handling, care, and husbandry experience.,OR Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in biology or animal science or related field and zero experience in animal handling, husbandry experience.,Achieving ALAT certification upon eligibility.
