Animal Care Technician I
Description
Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Care Technician I for their Chicago, IL site. This role involves daily animal health observations, performing animal husbandry duties such as cage checks, providing food and water, and cleaning cages to maintain the quality and health of research animals. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records for animal breeding and housing, assisting with animal restraint and handling, and potentially participating in breeding and weaning procedures. The technician may also monitor entry into rooms, operate equipment, and perform general housekeeping.
What We're Looking For
Perform daily animal health observations,Conduct animal husbandry duties including water bottle/line and cage checks,Provide food and water to research animals,Perform cage changes and/or clean cages,Maintain accurate records (e.g., animal breeding, housing, support areas),Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals,Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species,Participate in animal breeding and weaning procedures,Monitor personnel and equipment entry into various rooms,Operate required equipment,Perform general housekeeping duties
Ideal Candidate
Associate's degree with 6 months of animal handling, care, and husbandry experience,OR Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in biology, animal science, or a related field with zero experience in animal handling and husbandry,Achieve ALAT certification upon eligibility
