Animal Care Technician I

Description

The Animal Care Technician I will review, observe, monitor, and document the health and physical environment within the client’s animal facility. This role involves performing animal care and husbandry duties, including receiving animals, cage washing, and sanitation. Key responsibilities also include maintaining precise records of animal breeding, health, and housing, assisting with animal restraint and handling, utilizing software for animal tracking and cage card generation, and conducting quality assurance measures.

What We're Looking For

Perform daily animal husbandry duties: water bottle/automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.,Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas.,Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species.,Use applicable software for tracking animals, including census and generation of cage cards.,Perform daily cage wash duties and sanitation, following sanitization schedules within vivarium.,Provide basic start-up and shut-down procedures on equipment (cage washer, autoclave, water production).,Perform quality assurance measures (temperature temps, watering testing, BIs, RODAC and/or ATP monitoring) and maintain such records.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field (no experience required),OR Associate Degree in animal or life sciences field with 6 months experience research animal care and husbandry,OR High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent with 1 year of experience research animal care and husbandry (preferred),AALAS Certification at the ALAT level within 12 months of employment.
